James A. D'Orta, MD
Chairman & CEO, Consumer Health Services, Inc.
Dr. D’Orta is a physician and businessman who was a Board Certified Specialist in Emergency Medicine and the Founder and President of International Medical Consulting, Inc. (IMC). IMC has provided medical support and consulting services to corporations and individuals over the past 10 years. Most recently, Dr. D’Orta served as an investor, medical advisor and board member to Minute Clinic, which was acquired by CVS, Inc., and now operates over 100 retail-based health clinics in 15 states. Prior to that position, he was the founder and CEO of a national physician service and medical device oversight provider, LifeLink MD, which was recently acquired by Medtronic Inc.
In addition to these business roles, Dr. D’Orta continues to serve as a director for the Board of Visitors at Johns Hopkins University and for the Board of Directors to the Georgetown University Hospital. He also holds faculty positions in emergency medicine and surgery at Georgetown, George Washington, and the University of Maryland Schools of Medicine and serves on several administrative and clinical oversight boards.
In the public arena, Dr. D’Orta has held numerous positions in the State of Maryland, including appointment as the State Medical Director. The Governor also named Dr. D’Orta Chairman of the Maryland Commission on Emergency Medical Services, which resulted in comprehensive reforms of the State’s emergency medical system, solidifying Maryland’s reputation as a leader in the field of emergency and trauma care.
Humanitarian relief has played an important role in shaping Dr. D’Orta’s professional life. He played a critical role in coordinating emergency physician teams in response to the earthquakes in Mexico City, Armenia, and San Francisco. He has provided medical aid to the victims of the Amtrak-Contrail disaster in Maryland and led an international medical task force to Kuwait after the Gulf war.
Dr. D’Orta has been honored with numerous awards given by his colleagues in medicine and the community. He has received several special citations from the President of the United States and the Governors and Legislatures of Maryland and Virginia.

John P. McDaniel
Chairman, Medstar Foundation
John P. McDaniel is the Chairman of the Medstar Foundation, a multi-institutional, not-for-profit health care organization serving Washington, D. C., Maryland, Virginia and the mid-Atlantic region. MedStar is an integrated system of 25 hospitals and healthcare businesses including Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington.
Under McDaniel’s leadership, MedStar has become one of the Baltimore-Washington region’s most extensive networks of healthcare providers and facilities, offering a full range of services from emergency care to physical rehabilitation to women’s services. Medstar has over 4,000 affiliated physicians and serves more than half-a-million patients each year.
McDaniel, a past chairman and currently a member of the executive committee of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, is also a member of the executive committee of the Federal City Council, a trustee of the National Capitol Area Foundation and a member of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. He is a member of the board of directors of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Georgetown University, LifeLinkMD, Washington Real Estate Investment Trust and the Greater Baltimore Committee. He is past chairman and currently a member of the Maryland State Racing Commission, is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been a delegate to the America Hospital Association House of Delegates.
An advocate for humanism in health care, McDaniel has published articles and lectured on health care management issues. He has served as a preceptor for the George Washington University, Duke University and University of Michigan graduate programs in hospital administration and has been a member of the visiting faculty of Duke University’s graduate program in hospital administration. McDaniel holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Wittenberg University, a M.H.A. from the University of Michigan and an honorary doctorate from Wittenberg University. He is the recipient of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation’s Globe and Anchor Award and the Greater Washington Board of Trade’s Leader of the Years Award.

Steven Kelmar
Senior Vice President, Aetna, Inc.
Steven Kelmar graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration and Economics from Pennsylvania State University and spent 14 years (1979–1993) in public service in several executive positions.
He was Chief of Staff to two Members of the US Congress and also worked in several legislative capacities for Members of the US Senate and the House of Representatives before his appointment by President Bush in 1990 to the position of Assistant Secretary for Legislation in the US Department of Health and Human Services.
In 1993, he joined Strategic Management Association of Alexandria, Virginia. In 1997, he moved to Medtronic Inc., to become Senior Vice President of External Relations and joined Novartis as Head of Public Affairs and Communications in February 2003.
Effective July 1, he was appointed by Aetna as head of Government Relations. In
this role, he will lead Aetna's government affairs initiatives at the federal and
state levels, and be responsible for the company's health public policy initiatives.

Todd Marshall, is the founder and Chairman of Marshall Retail Group (MRG), the leading player in specialty retail and logo/brand management in the gaming and resort industry.

In addition, he was a founding director of Bank of Nevada and a director of Western Alliance Bancorp, which operates Bank of Nevada, Alliance Bank of Arizona, and Torrey Pines Bank in California.

William A. Haseltine, PhD
President, Haseltine Foundation for Medical Sciences and the Arts
William A. Haseltine PhD is the President of the Haseltine Foundation for Medical Sciences and the Arts, a foundation that supports access to high quality health for the poor and middle class of developing countries, primarily India, that also fosters a dialog between sciences and the arts. He is also the Chairman of Haseltine Global Health, LLC, a company dedicated to creating new and more efficient means to develop new life saving drugs and medical devices. He is an Adjunct Professor at The Scripps Institute for Medical Research.
William Haseltine has an active career in both Science and Business. He was a professor at Harvard Medical School from 1976-1993 where he was the chair of two academic research departments. He is well known for his pioneering work on cancer and HIV/AIDS. He is the Founder of Human Genome Sciences, Inc and served as the Chairman and CEO of the Company until 2004.He is also the founder of seven other successful biotechnology companies. He serves as an advisor to CMEA, a venture capital company, and to several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Haseltine is active in public service. He is Co-Chair of the President’s Council of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a member of the Advisory Board of the Global Coalition on HIV/AIDS, a member of the Board of One World Health, a member of the CEO Council of the New York Academy of Science, and Chair of the Berkeley Center of Synthetic Biology. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Brookings Institution, a member of both the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission, and a member of the Chairman’s Circle of the Asia Society.
He resides in Washington DC and New York City.
